Open data is data that anyone can freely use without technical, financial, or legal restrictions. It may also be reused and redistributed in accordance with the requirements of the open data licence under which it is published. Making data available to everyone aims to enhance transparency, encourage public participation, and stimulate innovation.

Responsibilities of Open Data Users

  • Use the data only in accordance with the terms of the open data licence.
  • Include a copy of the copyright notice and open data licence when transferring or publishing the data.
  • Keep copyright and usage-rights notices intact in all relevant documents.
  • Do not use the data for political purposes, to support illegal activities, or to encourage unacceptable behaviour.

The Authority’s Responsibilities Regarding Open Data

  • GEOSA is not responsible for any errors or missing information in the open data.
  • GEOSA is not responsible for any intellectual works, studies, or reports based on this data.
  • GEOSA is not responsible for any harm or misuse experienced by any entity or individual as a result of using the published data.
  • GEOSA accepts no liability towards users of this data for any harm or loss they may incur from its reuse.

Open Data Datasets

Seabed Classification Point Data (Sample)

Natural seabed samples collected during hydrographic survey projects using a grab sampler and geologically classified to calibrate seabed echo-return classification data from echo sounders. The data is available in XYZ format with associated descriptive information.

Geographical Names

A dataset of geographical names and their classifications, including terrain features, water features, urban structures, open areas, agricultural areas, regions, governorates, centres, villages, and transport networks.

Information on Available Vector Data

Information on natural and man-made features represented as points, lines, and areas, such as buildings, roads, valleys, and agricultural areas. These two- or three-dimensional features are collected from aerial or satellite imagery according to international standards and specifications or upon request.
